Free EU current news widget

1. Do you have your Euroalert.net API key?

If you do not have an API key yet, register with Condelway to get one. This key will grant you a connection to the Euroalert.net API for your website and therefore allow you to use our free EU Calls for Proposals widget. If you already have one, continue to the next step.

2. Copy the following code where you wish to place the widget

<div id="area-to-display-eu-news"></div>
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://condelway.com/api/js/euroalertfreev2.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
var EConfigNews = new EuroalertConfig ('euroalert-api-key', 'area-to-display-eu-news', Euroalert.DataType.News);
/*
 Optional properties to configure the widget.
 Delete slashes // from those configurations you wish to use.
*/

// EConfigNews.Pager = true;
// EConfigNews.Debug = false;
// EConfigNews.SetFilter (
//	Euroalert.FilterType.Category,
//	Euroalert.Category.Economy,
//	Euroalert.Category.Environment,
//	Euroalert.Category.Social
//	);
 EuroalertFree.Execute(EConfigNews);
</script>

The void area is identified by "area-to-display-eu-news" (where EU News will be displayed) can be placed wherever you choose within your website.

The first script imports the Javascript client that connects the Euroalert.net API to your website and the second one contains the configuration for your particular use. These are the configuration options available:

  • euroalert-api-key: Key linked to your website(s) url(s) that you can obtain by following the instructions provided in step 1.
  • area-to-display-eu-news: the area name where widget contents will be shown.
  • EConfigNews.Pager=[true/false]: show or hide the page navigator at the foot of the widget. The default value is false.
  • EConfigNews.Debug=[true/false]: Show or hide error messages sent by the API client. The default value is false. Activate these alert messages during configuration in order to help you debug your results but remember to deactivate them when you have finished.
  • EConfigNews.SetFilter(filtertype , filtervalue1, filtervalue2, [...], filtervalueN): Lets you filter, by category, the contents shown by your widget. The first thing is to set up the type of filter you would like to use. Then choose your category values. Only one filter category is required, thereafter you can use as may as you would like.
  • EConfigNews.Mode = Euroalert.Output.WidgetWide: show an expanded version of your widget which includes a short description of all the information items shown.
  • EConfigNews.Graphics = [true/false]: Navigate the pages using an icon. The default value is false and thus, if you do not use this option, the buttons are shown in text-mode.

We have many other options comming, to improve the customisation of your widget. We will inform you of all new options via the Euroalert.net blog

3. Personalise your widget

The API client (step 2) automatically imports the rules which define the default layout of the EU current news widget. We have defined these rules which can be downloaded in the previous link, so that the installation is made easier. You can also personalise your widget coding your own rules:

<style type="text/css">
	#area-to-display-eu-news .euroalert-free-widget {
		width: 200px;
	}
</style>

These personalised rules can be included in your own style sheets or within the header of the pages of your site. The example rule modifies the width of the EU current news widget but you can make the the modifications that you need, to size and colour, whilst respecting Euroalert.net logos and links. If you need more flexibility for integration you can find subscriptions with different licenses from €30 per month.
